Gemma completed her Masters in Music Performance at Trinity College of Music, studying with Naomi Butterworth. She was recipient of numerous awards from trusts in support of her post-graduate studies and continues to be supported by The Denne Gilkes Memorial Fund and The Lynn Foundation. With her duo partner, pianist Ian Richardson, she has performed many recitals and will continue to do so in 2009.
During her time as an undergraduate, also at Trinity, Gemma studied with Joely Koos. She has participated in masterclasses with Frans Helmerson, Orfeo Mandozzi, Emma Ferrand, Hillel Zori and Thomas Carroll, and performed in all the main College ensembles including Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Baroque Orchestra. Gemma was selected as a finalist in the Vivien Joseph Classical Concerto Competition.
Gemma has performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Essex Concert Orchestra and has also appeared as soloist with the Southend Symphony Orchestra performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major. Interested in a wide range of repertoire and styles, Gemma has worked with James Judd, Jan Latham-Koenig, Walter Reiter, DJ Yoda, Gabriel Prokofiev and regularly works in Music Theatre. She is an active session musician, working recently with Il Divo, and having completed her studies, is working as a freelance cellist.
